Five things I don't get

1. MF Doom - Since when has it been cool to sound like your not trying to rap. He reminds me of a kid trying to rap in his bedroom without mum hearing.

2. Blogs - There are two many, surely not this many people have anything interesting to say (me included).

3. Mixtapes - Why? It seems like these days the main skill needed to put 'DJ' before your name is to jack beats and scream over the top of the (semi) famous rapper.

4. Random Rap - So any jerk can pull out an obscure record call it 'Random Rap' and sell it for loot. I had a bunch of that stuff and I called it garbage and put it in the bin. With a few exceptions most rare and limited releases are that way for a reason.

5. Madlib - What is the big deal here? What don't my ears pick up? All I hear is a bunch of samples mashed together with varying levels of annoyance. Is that creativity these days?

Hit up the comments and let me know why you want to give me a high five or strangle me with piano wire.

I am not going to strangle you...
but you are missing out on Madlib!
As for the rest, you made some valid points.

I'm not too sure about the "most rare and limited releases are that way for a reason" as some of the dopest albums ever made have been small presses.

I'm with you on the rest though.

There are some incredible limited press records no doubt. My point is there now seems to be more focus on how 'random' a release is then how good it is. King Tee - Triflin Album is mad limited on vinyl but is hardly getting these trendy collectors excited. A good rare record is an exception to the rule, think about how many rare records there are most end up that way because they inspired no one.

Perhaps you lack the vocabulary to recognize talent and lack the talent to actually flow yourself? Pick up Donuts by J Dilla, bust your own rhymes and possibly recognize the irony of someone ranting on blogs in a blog.

You are missing out on Madlib in the same way I suspect you may be missing out on Don Giovanni. Some people just look for flaws in everything, a reason not to like something. Some people try and justify the existence of everything. I'm in the middle, and I suggest you work your way there.

As harsh as this may have sounded, I am making no attempt to attack you...I just honestly think your outlook blocks you from believing that anything you CAN'T do yourself is worth something.

Perhaps I'm wrong, where should I look to ch-ch-check myself?

I couldn't agree more, mixtapes are hack-tastic. I also agree that a LOT of rap is crap, but those few exceptions are the glittering gold in the shit stew of life.
